Amy Turner has spent the majority of her professional career promoting athletes, sports-related organizations and associated partners through her roles in public relations, marketing and sponsorship. She has worked in three industries over the past 25 years: college athletics, television and nonprofit.
Turner’s experience with Colorado’s sports-related organizations includes an 11-year stint with FOX Sports/ROOT Sports Rocky Mountain. In her role as director of marketing and communications, she worked closely with many of the professional sports teams, university athletic departments, high school associations, and annual sporting events in the region. She also helped nonprofits raise funds and awareness, leading to strategic partnerships with organizations such as Boys and Girls Clubs of Metro Denver, DPS athletics and Special Olympics Colorado. Her involvement with Special Olympics Colorado progressed from corporate media partner and board member to a staff member within the organization where she served as vice president of marketing and communications for nearly five years.
Prior to her experience working in the television and nonprofit industries, Turner spent more than 13 years in college sports working with media, donors and sponsors. She served as the PR director for the University of Denver athletics department over five years and as assistant commissioner for communications at the Mountain West Conference for two years. Turner’s experience in media relations includes regularly traveling with NCAA I football, men’s basketball, men’s ice hockey and baseball teams throughout the country. She also has worked closely with many women’s sports teams while working at universities in the northeast and Pacific Northwest. She enjoys volunteering for sports-related causes and organizations. Her experience as a board member includes: Metro Denver Sports Commission (2007-2009), Sportswomen of Colorado (2006-present), and Special Olympics Colorado (2009-2011).
A native of Rockport, Mass., Turner graduated from the University of Massachusetts with a BS in Sport Management. She and her significant other, Doug Sampson, live southeast Denver. They have been members of the Country Club at Castle Pines since 2009.
