Ben Lanting of Littleton and former CGA Les Fowler Player of the Year Gunner Wiebe will be sticking around for the weekend at the National Car Rental Assistant PGA Professional Championship after making the 36-hole cut Friday in Port St. Lucie, Fla.
Lanting (pictured), winner of the last two Colorado PGA Assistants Championships, and Wiebe struggled in the second round — Lanting with a 76 and Wiebe with a 77 — and dropped into a tie for 41st place at 3-over-par 147. They trail co-leaders Alex Beach of Palm Beach Gardens, Fla., and Matt Rachey of Waconia, Minn., by eight. Beach won the national PGA Professional Championship this year.
The 132-person field was cut to the low 70 players and ties, with everyone at 151 or better advancing to the weekend.
