2021 Major No. 2

Legacy Ridge GC hosts Colorado Junior Amateur in very busy week for elite junior golfers from the state

By Gary Baines – 7/10/2021

The second Junior Golf Alliance of Colorado major of 2021 is on tap next week. But the Colorado Junior Amateur has plenty of competition when it comes to attracting the top junior golfers in Colorado.

After all, also happening at the same time are three big national/international junior tournaments that have all drawn at least one qualifier from Colorado: the IMG Academy Junior World Championships in the San Diego area, the Boys Junior PGA Championship in Lexington, Ky., and the U.S. Girls’ Junior Championship in Chevy Chase, Md.

So with some of the top Colorado players competing elsewhere, it spells opportunity for the field at the Colorado Junior Am, which runs Monday through Wednesday at Legacy Ridge Golf Course in Westminster.

Among those scheduled to tee it up at Legacy Ridge are, on the girls side, 2020 JGAC Girls Player of the Year Aubri Braecklein of Northglenn, winner of the 2020 CGA Women’s Stroke Play; two-time JGAC major winner Emma Bryant of Aurora; and 2019 Colorado Junior Amateur champion Kaylee Chen of Parker.

For the boys, entered are 2021 AJGA Hale Irwin Colorado Junior winner Owen Cornmesser of Fort Collins; 2020 state high school champions Lucas Schulte of Lone Tree (5A), Jordan Jennings of Montrose (4A) and Nic Pevny of Aspen (3A); and past state high school winner Will Kates of Centennial; along with Jeff Nelson of Commerce City.
