2022 Niblick Tournament

For nearly 20 years the Colorado Golf Association has contested its CGA Niblick tournament for women golfers with handicaps between 18 and 36. The inaugural Niblick was conducted by the Colorado Women’s Golf Association and played on the old Mira Vista Golf Course. Much has changed since 2006. Mira Vista Golf Course is now CommonGround Golf Course and the CWGA has joined forces with the CGA to provide a unified platform for amateur golf in Colorado.

These advancements have helped strengthen the tradition of the Niblick as evidenced by the full field of 60 teams who participated in the 2022 edition at Walnut Creek Golf Preserve on Tuesday, June 21st. Laura Laux of West Woods and Margi Schmick of Homestead Golf Course proved a formidable team, carding an 11-under-par, overall net 61 that included nine birdies and one eagle.

Beth Forsyth and Jo Honeyman of Lake Arbor Golf Course took second flight first low net honors with a net 64. Sue Hahn and Rose Rismanchi of Springhill Golf Course and Monita Pacheco and Brenda Chergo of West Woods Golf Club tied for the third flight first low net spot with net 65’s.

Tammy Hitchens and Margie Miller of Hyland Hills Golf Course fired a four-ball low gross score of 83, the lowest in the field.

This year marks the 17th anniversary of the annual tournament, with the field expanding by 8 teams over last year’s event. All competitors must have handicaps between 18 and 36.

Bonus note:  A “niblick” was the name of golf’s earliest “wedges” and was used for short approach shots and bunker shots.  Thankfully, we have much better equipment today!
