2023 CGA State Junior Championship – Round of 32 RECAP

After two days of stroke play the top 32 boys and girls moved into the match-play portion of the CGA State Junior Championship at CommonGround Golf Course.

Stroke play medalists Reese Knox of Peyton and Elle Higgins of Centennial prevailed in the round of 32. However, not all top seeds were as lucky.  Ryan Oro of Centennial upset Billy Ver Straate of Lone Tree (3 and 2). Kellan Ball of Windsor defeated Brayden Forte of Aurora (6 and 4). Wesley Erling of Colorado Springs fell short to Ben Harding of Longmont (3 and 1).

The match between Noah Richmond of Montrose and Jack Bakken of Lone Tree went extra holes with Richmond advancing after 21 holes.

Brenna Higgins advances to round of 16

In the girls’ matches, Riley Kinsella of Westminster upset Lenna Persson of Aspen (2 and 1). In a rematch from last year, this time Mollie Todd of Golden defeated Ashleigh Wilson of Highlands Ranch in extra holes (19 holes). The match between Kaitlyn Grommeck of Steamboat Springs and Jocelyn Barrus of Parker also went into extra holes with Grommeck victorious after 20 holes.

The stage is now set for the round of 16, which will start on Thursday morning followed by the quarterfinals in the afternoon.  The semifinals and finals are scheduled for Friday.
