The 2024 Parent-Child Championship at Ironbridge Golf Club promises to be an exciting two-day, 36-hole competition, with both gross and net winners determined from 50% of the team’s combined course handicap. Across the picturesque layout of Ironbridge Golf Club, teams will face two formats.
The first round will challenge competitors with 18 holes of Modified Chapman, where both partners tee off and swap balls for their second stroke. From there, they’ll choose the best ball to complete the hole, alternating shots until holed. In the second round, teams will play 18 holes of traditional Foursome Stroke Play.
Final round:
The competition was tight, with many parent-child duos trading places at the top of the leaderboard, often just one birdie away from taking the lead. In the end, Clark Edwards + Paul Edwards emerged victorious, becoming the 2024 CGA Parent-Child Champions.
Clark and his father have been playing together since Clark could hold a golf club, and for them, the highlight of the weekend was simply spending quality time together. Their standout moment came on hole 4, where they scored an eagle. Paul recalls Clark hitting a powerful drive straight down the fairway and sinking the putt to seal the deal.
Loel And Caleb Lierman Award:
Congratulations to Jason and Charlie Doyle for winning the Loel and Caleb Lierman Award, given to the team with the lowest 36-hole gross score featuring a player 18 years old or younger. They posted an impressive score of 143.
Round 1:
The first round of the 2024 Parent-Child Championship was held during a picturesque day in Glenwood Springs. As tee times began at 10:00am the mountain started to warm up and display its vibrant fall colors. With the last years champions, Bill and Will Fowler, not in the field this year, the door is wide open for a new Gross champion to be crowned. Even without the Fowlers at Ironbridge there are plenty of past champions hoping to get another taste of victory. Including the duos of the Moore’s, Roehrkasse’s, Burke’s, Mertz’, Dillion’s, and Kephart’s.
Below are the divisions for both Gross and Net Scores. (Slope / Rating / Par)
- Loel and Caleb Lierman Division: Teams with a player 18 years old and younger
- Men’s Division: 54 years old and younger (135 / 71.2 / 72)
- Senior Men’s Division: 55 years old and older (126 / 69.3 / 72)
- Women’s Division: All ages (131 / 69.3 / 72)
Top of the board:
Gross: Guy Mertz + Nicklaus Mertz (-7)

The Loel and Caleb Lierman Award is given to the team that includes a player 18 or younger with the lowest 36-hole gross score. This award was renamed after Loel and Caleb in 2010 to honor parents and their children spending time together and playing the great game of golf.
