Give male junior golfers in Colorado an “A” this year for how they performed in AJGA tournaments based in the Centennial State.

There were three AJGA events in Colorado in 2024, and on the boys side of things, Coloradans emerged with three victories.

After Miles Kuhl of Boulder (AJGA Colorado Junior at Walnut Creek) and Tyler Long of Evergreen (Colorado Springs Junior at Cheyenne Shadows) did their parts in June, Austin Hunt of Highlands Ranch on Thursday won the AJGA Junior Open at The Bridges presented by the City of Montrose.

Hunt, runner-up in the Mizuno Colorado PGA Junior Match Play a week ago, cruised to a six-stroke victory in a 51-player boys field in Montrose. It marked his first AJGA win.

Hunt, the son of 2009 and 2011 Colorado PGA Professional Championship winner Rob Hunt, carded rounds of 73-66-65 for a 9-under-par total at The Bridges Golf & Country Club. Over the final two days, Hunt posted 13 birdies and two bogeys.

“It feels really good to get my first AJGA win,” Hunt told AJGA.org. “I worked extremely hard for this and I’m proud of myself.”

Gable Roach of Keller, Texas was second at 3 under overall, while Jesse Hand of Littleton and Brayden Forte of Aurora tied for third at 1 under.

Ruihan Kendria Wang of Bellevue, Wash., won the girls title in Montrose by four (73-69-66). Macy Kleve of Windsor (77-72-78) was the top Colorado finisher among the girls, placing 14th.
