Senior q-school

Doug Rohrbaugh and Micah Rudosky fall short in Champions qualifying, but Jonathan Kaye will join Tom Kalinowski in final stage

By Gary Baines – 12/2/2021

The two Coloradans competing in the first stage of PGA Tour Champions Q-school this week came up a little short in bids to advance in their quest for 2022 cards.

With the top 18 finishers on Thursday in Winter Garden, Fla., earning spots in the Q-school finals, Doug Rohrbaugh of Carbondale tied for 21st place and Micah Rudosky of Cortez shared 27th. Rohrbaugh missed moving on by two strokes and Rudosky by four.

Rohrbaugh, who held conditional status on PGA Tour Champions in 2015, closed with a 75 for a 7-over-par 295 total. He made one birdie and four bogeys in Thursday’s final round.

Rudosky carded a final-round 76 to check in at 297. On Thursday, the 2021 Colorado PGA Professional Champion carded three birdies, five bogeys and a double bogey.

This week marked the third and final first-stage Q-school qualifier for PGA Tour Champions. Earlier, former Durango resident Tom Kalinowski punched his ticket to the final stage by tying for second in a qualifier in Nipton, Calif.

Also in the 79-player field for the Q-school finals — set for Dec. 7-10 in Lutz, Fla. — is part-time Boulder resident Jonathan Kaye, a former University of Colorado golfer who has won twice on the PGA Tour, and former Castle Pines resident Esteban Toledo, who’s won four times on the Champions circuit. Likewise competing will be Harry Rudolph, winner of the last two CoBank Colorado Senior Opens.

At the final stage, the top five finishers will be exempt on the Champions circuit in 2022.

Here are the round-by-round scores for the Coloradans who competed in Champions Q-school this week:

21. Doug Rohrbaugh of Carbondale 76-72-72-75–295

27. Micah Rudosky of Cortez 75-75-71-76–297
