Day 2: Top 40 & Ties

Another beautiful day greeted the players for the second round at the well-manicured Highland Meadows Golf Course. Weather-wise the players couldn’t have asked for better conditions as temperatures settled around the mid-80s and accompanied by a gentle breeze. The golf course, however gave players a bit more of a challenge as length was added to the course overnight, which saw par 71, stretch to 6,799 yards. This extra length was reflected in the scores, as the stroke average for Round 2 rose to 76.97 compared to Round 1’s 75.00. Steve Ivan and Mark Hirsch share the lead at 6-under, 136 after Round 2. Steve Ivan continued his good form, shooting a 1-under 70 to complement his strong opening round. Mark Hirsch shot the round of the day, firing a 5-under 66, which included 7 birdies, to equal Ivan’s 6-under total. The lead pair are 4 clear of third leaving the leaderboard well poised for a final day battle. The tougher Round 2 conditions saw the cut line fall at +9, which will see 43 players move on to tomorrow’s final round.

Day 1: Fowler, Ivan (66) share first-round lead

The top of the leaderboard was shared by past champions after Tuesday’s Round 1. Bill Fowler of Lakewood (The Club at Rolling Hills) got off to a hot start, going 5-under through the first seven holes and finishing with a solid 5-under 66. He is tied for first with Steve Ivan of Colorado Springs (Patty Jewett GC Men’s Associate Club), who posted a flawless, bogey-free round to match Fowler for the low round of the day. Round 1 concluded with 15 players under par, setting up a tightly contested leaderboard. Players will be eager to continue the low scoring tomorrow as they battle to make the cut, with the top 40 players and ties advancing to Wednesday’s round.
