The 88th CGA Amateur Championship, held at Eisenhower Golf Course- Blue Course, features a 72-hole stroke play format. A cut will be made after 36 holes, reducing the field to the lowest 40 players and ties. To participate, all competitors were required to have a handicap index of 5.0 or below. This year’s field is stacked with some of Colorado’s elite amateur golfers.

The 88th CGA Amateur Championship offers exciting opportunities for its top performers. The champion will earn an exemption into the 2024 U.S. Amateur Championship, while the top three finishers will be exempt from local qualifying for the 2025 U.S. Amateur Championship.

Round 2:

Round 2 of the CGA Amateur was a moving day. Colin Prater (Broadmoor Golf Club) is currently leading the field, sitting at 12 under par after both rounds. Reese Knox (CGA Junior) moved into second place with a score of 5 under for the day, putting him at 9 under overall.

Among the standout performances, Lucas Howell (Southern Colorado e-club) and Lucas Schulte (USGA/Colorado State GC) made remarkable leaps, each moving up 17 places on the leaderboard. Chris Thayer (Metro Denver e-club) also had a significant climb, jumping 11 spots to secure fourth place.

Players who finished the day with a total score of +5 or better will successfully make the cut and advance to compete this weekend.

Round 1:

Matthew Wilkinson (Lone Tree GC Associate Club), the 2024 CGA Match Play Champion, surged to the top of the leaderboard with an impressive 8-under par performance (64), featuring six birdies and a spectacular holed-out eagle on hole 15. eagle. Close behind, two-time past champion Colin Prater (Broadmoor Golf Club) secured second place with a 7-under round (65).

Players faced challenging greens and slopes at Eisenhower, testing their skills throughout the day.
