Former University of Colorado golfer Jeremy Paul shot the low round of the entire field on Friday — a 6-under-par 65 — and jumped 67 spots up the scoreboard at the final stage of Korn Ferry Tour Q-school in Savannah, Ga.
Paul, a regular on the Korn Ferry circuit in 2017 after wrapping up his CU career, made an eagle and four birdies in a bogey-free round on Friday, which left him tied for sixth place in the 149-man field. He stands at 5-under 136, four strokes behind leader Jonathan Brightwell.
Paul competed on the Forme Tour in 2021, recording four top-10s in eight starts.
The medalist in this week’s 72-hole event will be fully exempt for the 2022 Korn Ferry season, while finishers 2-10 and ties are exempt for the first dozen events, and finishers 11-40 and ties for the first eight tournaments. The remaining players out of the field at the final stage will receive conditional status for 2022, meaning starts will be more sporadic — in some cases, very much more.
The other players competing this week who have strong ties to Colorado are outside of the top 40 but well within striking distance going into the weekend. Jake Staiano of Englewood shares 62nd place (69-75–144), while 2018 CGA Amateur champion Kyler Dunkle also is tied for 62nd despite a triple bogey on Friday (73-71–144), and former Air Force Academy golfer Kyle Westmoreland shares 78th place (76-69—145).
The tournament will continue through Sunday.
