CSU’s AJ Ott places third in Tucker Amateur in Arizona

By Gary Baines – 9/27/2020

AJ Ott, the Fort Collins resident who plays at Colorado State, didn’t get to compete in intercollegiate college golf this fall. Covid-19 safety concerns saw to that.

But in the last week, the 2018 CGA Player of the Year has been recording some strong finishes in replacement events.

Last Tuesday, Ott barely missed getting into a playoff at the Fort Collins GCAA Amateur, finishing tied for third. And on Sunday, he matched that showing at the Tucker Amateur in Maricopa, Ariz., which is part of the Troon Saguaro Amateur Series conducted by University of Colorado men’s golf head coach Roy Edwards and Joe Jensen, Edwards’ counterpart at the University of Wyoming.

Ott, a four-time U.S. Amateur qualifier, posted rounds of 69-66-70 for a 10-under-par 205 total, which left him four strokes behind champion Trevor Werbylo of Tucson, a University of Arizona golfer. Ott made just two bogeys in 54 holes.

Joining them in the top 10 was CU golfer Canon Olkowski, who finished ninth at 207 (68-71-68).
