Colorado Golf Hall of Famer Vlosich shares first-round lead with Terpstra at Colorado PGA Professional Championship

By Gary Baines – 09/09/2019

Eight players broke par on Monday in the opening round of the Colorado PGA Professional Championship at Meridian Golf Club in Englewood, including five former champions.

Among those former champs is Colorado Golf Hall of Famer Ron Vlosich of Lakewood, who won the title straight times starting in 1991. Vlosich shot a 3-under-par 69 on Monday to share the lead after round 1 with Seth Terpstra of GolfTEC-DTC.

Vlosich made four birdies and one bogey in the first round, while Terpstra chalked up six birdies — including five in a row in the middle of his round — and three bogeys.

A couple of other former champs in this event — Caine Fitzgerald of Meadow Hills and Micah Rudosky of Conquistador — are tied for third place at 70 with Alexandra Braga of Denver Country Club. Braga and Fitzgerald eagled No. 11 on Monday.

Knotted at 71 are defending champion Patrick Reidy of Inverness, two-time winner Rob Hunt of The Links, and Eric Bradley of Catamount Ranch.

The 54-hole tournament will continue through Wednesday, with the field being cut roughly in half after Tuesday’s second round.

The top eight finishers on Wednesday will qualify for the 2020 national PGA Professional Championship, set for April 26-29 in Austin, Texas.
