Colorado resident and former champ Duval among invitees for made-for-TV PNC Championship

By Gary Baines – 11/6/2020

Three different teams with strong Colorado connections have won the nationally televised PNC Championship — previously named the PNC Father/Son Challenge — since the tournament debuted in 1995.

Craig and Kevin Stadler claimed the title in 2002, Hale and Steve Irwin in 2003, and David Duval and stepson Nick Karavites in 2016.

And at least one “local” team will be teeing it up this year for the 23rd annual playing of the event.

On Friday, the tournament announced 18 of the 20 major championship/Players Championship-winning participants for the 2020 event, which will be contested Dec. 19-20 at the Ritz-Carlton Golf Club Orlando, Grande Lakes. And Duval, a former No. 1-ranked player in the world who calls Cherry Hills Village home, will be among those teeing it up with a family member in the 36-hole scramble tournament.

Last year, Duval and son Brady finished fourth in the PNC, marking David Duval’s fourth top-four showing in six tries since his debut in 2012.

Justin Thomas, the No. 3 player in the world rankings, will make his PNC appearance with his dad Mike, while Bernhard Langer and son Jason will defend their title.

Among others set to compete are Gary Player, Lee Trevino, Greg Norman, Annika Sorenstam and Vijay Singh.

The field as it stands features players who have won a combined 49 major championships.

Golf Channel and NBA will televise the PNC Championship.
