Battle For the Crown at Battlement

There were two Champions crowned at Battlement Mesa Golf Course in Parachute, Colorado today for the 2023 CGA Western Chapter Championship. The Open Division Champion, Slade Marceau of Englewood Men’s Golf Club, shot rounds of 70 and 71 to win 3-under-par, 141 total gross. As his first CGA Championship win, Marceau says, “It’s amazing what can happen when you believe in yourself.” Slade’s 36-hole total of 3-under par 141 gave him a one-shot win over three T2 finishers. He came back to Battlement Mesa Golf Club this year with a goal in mind after finishing in the top fifteen last year. Marceau started playing golf seriously as a sophomore in high school and received a scholarship to play college golf at Fort Lewis College in Durango. Slade stated, “I putted great all weekend. That’s what got me through. I saw that I had an opportunity to strike today, so I went for it. And I like to play competitively. I noticed that when I stopped playing as aggressive, it didn’t help.” Pushing through the final stretch in the heat, Slade birdied hole 17 to secure the Championship.

Sean Thomas of Indian Tree GC Associate Club, Connor Downey of Clubs at Cordillera, and William Kates of Metro Denver e-Club all tied for second shooting 36-hole finishes of 2-under-par, 142. Sean Thomas shot the low 18-hole score of the tournament in Round One of 67. Lane Bohman of CommonGround GC Men’s Associate Club finished in solo third with a total 36-hole score of 1-under-par 143.

In the Senior Division, Jon Lindstrom of Lakewood Country Club shot rounds of 70 and 72 to win his 12th CGA Championship. Lindstrom’s 36-hole total of 2-under par 142 gave him a three-shot win over Dave Sorel of Glenwood Springs Golf Club who finished in solo second after shooting rounds of 72 and 73.
