Big Week Awaits

Boulder amateur Brennan Dolan among Monday qualifiers for CoBank Colorado Open

By Gary Baines – 7/20/2020

One more Coloradan — amateur Brennan Dolan of Boulder — was added to the field for this week’s CoBank Colorado Open on Monday through the final qualifying tournament for the prestigious $250,000 event.

Dolan, a 29-year-old who led Fairview High School to the 5A boys state team title in 2007 and went on to play college golf at the University of Colorado, shot a 6-under-par 65 on Monday at Legacy Ridge Golf Course in Westminster, where a dozen players landed spots in the Colorado Open.

Dolan eagled the par-5 third hole and added six birdies and two bogeys to share third place in the 81-person field. He was the only amateur to qualify for the Open on Monday.

Aaron Whalen of Ephrata, Wash., and Kaylor Steger of Mount Pleasant, Wis., shared medalist honors on Monday with 7-under 64s. Steger eagled the par-4 11th hole — which plays as a par-5 for public play at Legacy Ridge — and added six birdies and one bogey. Whalen, a former San Diego State golfer, made eight birdies and one bogey.

Monday marked the fifth qualifying tournament for the Colorado Open, which runs Thursday through Sunday at Green Valley Ranch Golf Club in northeast Denver. The Open features a $100,000 first prize.
