Big Weekend for Locals

A week before they’ll team up at PGA Tour’s Zurich Classic, twins and former CU golfers Jeremy and Yannik Paul post top-3 finishes on separate tours; Davis Bryant, Kyle Westmoreland notch top-5 showings

By Gary Baines – 4/20/2025

Easter weekend proved a joyous one — from a golf perspective — for several players with strong Colorado connections.

Specifically, former University of Colorado golfer Jeremy Paul (PGA Tour), his twin brother Yannik (DP World Tour), Davis Bryant of Aurora (HotelPlanner Tour, the secondary tour on the European circuit) and former Air Force Academy golfer Kyle Westmoreland (Korn Ferry Tour) posted top-5 finishes around the globe. And for Jeremy Paul and Bryant, it was their best showing ever on their respective tours.

— Pauls Contend Half a World Apart: Jeremy Paul, who’s in his rookie season on the PGA Tour, notched the first top-10 of his young career on golf’s top circuit as he tied for second on Sunday at the Corales Puntacana Championship in the Dominican Republic, an opposite-field PGA Tour event.

Paul closed with an even-par 72 on Sunday to check in at 13 under par, a stroke back of winner Garrick Higgo. Paul earned $243,400.

“I’ve been playing good golf,” the 31-year-old said. “It’s great obviously to have a chance on Sunday; that’s what we practice for. I feel like the game has been in a great spot.”

Next week, Paul will team up with twin brother Yannik at the PGA Tour’s Zurich Classic of New Orleans, where Yannik will make his PGA Tour debut. Yannik is a regular on the DP World Tour who finished third on Sunday at the Volvo China Open (see below).

“I’m super excited” about that, Jeremy said on Saturday. “We don’t play much golf unfortunately anymore together these days because he’s playing on the DP World Tour and I’m over here. We both live in Arizona so we play back home quite a bit, but obviously it’s very difficult with the schedules. … Teaming up next week, we’re very much looking forward to it and very grateful that Zurich gave us the opportunity.”

The Pauls have competed in the same fields as pros at least a couple of times — at the 2024 BMW Championship in Germany and at the Korn Ferry Tour finals a few years ago. But they haven’t teamed together since their amateur days.

“So to have the opportunity on the highest level on the PGA Tour to play a team event with your brother … We’re best friends, have similar games. We’re very much looking forward to it and it’s going to be one of the highlights of the year for me for sure.” CORALES PUNTACANA SCORES

As for Yannik Paul, his third-place showing in China on Sunday marked his best performance on the DP World Tour since a runner-up in France in October. It’s his seventh top-3 finish on the DP World Tour, including one victory.

Yannik (68-68-67-69) ended up two strokes behind champion Ashun Wu. Yannik earned 141,273 euros ($160,662) for the finish. SCORES

— Best Showing for Davis Bryant Overseas: Former Colorado State University golfer Davis Bryant recorded his best finish since earning his DP World Tour card in the fall. Specifically, the 2024 Inspirato Colorado Open champion placed fourth on Sunday at the HotelPlanner Tour’s Abu Dhabi Challenge in the United Arab Emirates.

Davis, a former CGA Player of the Year, recorded scores of 69-63-66-67 for a 15-under-par total, which left him two strokes behind winner Renato Paratore. He earned 15,829 euros ($18,001).

It marked the second HotelPlanners Tour top 10 for Bryant as he placed sixth in the Delhi Challenge a month ago. Because of his status, he’s splitting his starts between the DP World Tour and the HotelPlanner Tour. SCORES

— Westmoreland Notches 2nd Top-5 of KFT Season; 2023 U.S. Am Runner-Up Neal Shipley Wins: Kyle Westmoreland reinforced his strong position to regain his PGA Tour card as the former Air Force Academy golfer finished tied for fourth on Saturday at the Korn Ferry Tour’s LECOM Suncoast Classic in Lakewood Ranch, Fla.

Westmoreland, who won the KFT’s Astara Golf Championship in February, improved to sixth on the season-long Korn Ferry points list.  The top 20 players on the points list after the Korn Ferry Tour Championship — which concludes on Oct. 12 — land exempt status on the PGA Tour in 2026. Westmoreland owned full PGA Tour status in the 2022-23 season.

At the LECOM, Westmoreland went 65-72-65-66 for a 16-under-par total, which left him two strokes out of a playoff after bogeying the last two holes. In the final round, the 33-year-old made an eagle, seven birdies and four bogeys.

Ironically, though he has two top-five finishes on the Korn Ferry Tour this year, Westmoreland also has five missed cuts and a 76th place in eight starts.

Neal Shipley, the runner-up in the 2023 U.S. Amateur at Cherry Hills Country Club, won the playoff with a birdie on the fifth extra hole for his first KFT victory.
