Coloradan Leigha Devine overcomes opening triple bogey to get into a playoff for the final match-play spots at U.S. Women’s Amateur

Despite starting the day with a triple bogey, two-time CGA Women’s Player of the Year Leigha Devine vaulted 51 spots up the scoreboard on Tuesday and will compete on day 3 of the U.S. Women’s Amateur at Southern Hills Country Club in Tulsa.
The golfer from Windsor — and formerly of Rutgers University — shot an even-par 72 on Tuesday, which was enough to get her into a Wednesday morning playoff for the final spots in the 64-player match play portion of the championship.
Devine, winner of two CGA Women’s Stroke Plays and two Women’s Match Plays, will join the other 19 players who shared 55th place in stroke play — all at 9 over par — in the playoff. Ten of them will advance to match play, which will begin later Wednesday. It will mark the largest playoff in the history of the Women’s Amateur.
After a 79 on Monday, Devine bounced back with a 72 on Tuesday that included four birdies, two bogeys and the opening triple bogey.
Meanwhile, fellow Coloradan Ashley Kozlowski of Littleton, coming off a runner-up finish last week in the Canadian Women’s Amateur, fell a stroke shy of being in the playoff. The 2024 CGA Women’s Stroke Play champion went 79-73 to check in at 10 over par.
