Coloradan Katherine Hollern will make LPGA Tour debut after Monday qualifying for Marathon LPGA Classic

By Gary Baines – 7/6/2021

Katherine Hollern, a resident of Sedalia, will be competing in an LPGA Tour event for the first time this week after Monday qualifying for the Marathon LPGA Classic which begins Thursday in Sylvania, Ohio.

Hollern earned medalist honors in qualifying with a 5-under-par 67 at Sylvania Country Club, making six birdies and one bogey.

Hollern, 24, didn’t play golf in high school or college (instead lacrosse) and only started competing in the sport three years ago. The Valor Christian and University of Denver graduate qualified for the U.S. Women’s Amateur in 2019.

“I mean, obviously, stepping on to the first tee I’ll be nervous and probably a little bit uncomfortable,” she told the Toledo Blade. “But I do think it’s a special thing that I can play here in my first LPGA event (her family has roots in the area), and I think that will make me a little more comfortable.”

Hollern will join Colorado native Jennifer Kupcho and former University of Colorado golfers Jenny Coleman and Esther Lee in the field for the Marathon LPGA Classic, which runs Thursday through Sunday.
