Sinclair Rocky Mountain Open in Grand Junction and Navajo Trail Open in Durango overlapping this week, crowning champs one day apart

It normally doesn’t play out this way on the Colorado golf schedule.
Typically, the longstanding open championships in the Centennial State go this way: The Navajo Trail Open is contested in June, the Colorado Open in July and the Rocky Mountain Open in August.
This year, two of the above are overlapping this week, finishing one day apart.
The Sinclair Rocky Mountain Open, which normally finishes on a Sunday, will be held Thursday through Saturday at Tiara Rado Golf Course in Grand Junction. The Navajo Trail Open at Hillcrest Golf Club in Durango is set for Friday through Sunday.
The 54-hole RMO, held every year since 1939, features a $20,000 payout to the winner. This year’s field includes 2021 CoBank Colorado Open runner-up Jake Staiano, 2013 Colorado Open winner Zahkai Brown, 2016 RMO champ Nick Mason, 2020 winner Mitch Carlson and 2021 U.S. Amateur qualifier Jackson Solem.
The event will feature pro, amateur and senior amateur competitions.

The 54-hole Navajo Trail Open will include both pro and amateur tournaments. Among the top pros entered are 2016 champion (and 2005 Colorado Open winner) Wil Collins and two-time Big Eight individual champ Bob Kalinowski, along with Drew Trujillo.
