Former Buff Jeremy Paul misses playoff by 1 on Golden State Tour; ex-CSU golfer Cannon shares fifth place

By Gary Baines – 5/8/2020

Former University of Colorado golfer Jeremy Paul recorded his second straight top-five finish on the Golden State Tour, and former Colorado State University player Blake Cannon joined him in the first five this week in Phoenix.

A week after tying for fifth place in the GCU Championship, Paul placed third out of 75 players on Wednesday — ending up one stroke out of a playoff — at the Legacy Classic.

Paul carded scores of 63-68-65 for a 17-under-par 196 total. The former Buff finished the week with one eagle, 19 birdies, two bogeys and one double bogey.

This marks Paul’s fourth consecutive top-10 finish in mini-tour action. In the 11 rounds over those four tournaments, his average score is 66.5.

Matt Picanso of Vista, Calif., and amateur Trevor Lampson of Gilbert, Ariz., tied for the top spot in regulation before Picanso prevailed with a birdie on the first playoff hole.

Cannon tied for fifth place on Wednesday after going 63-67-69 for a 14-under 199 total. He posted an eagle, 18 birdies, three bogeys and a double bogey.
