2-time Colorado Junior Match Play champ Morgan Miller notches 3rd top-3 finish for CU in fall portion of season

When Morgan Miller won back-to-back Colorado Junior Match Play titles in 2020 and ’21 — and committed to play her college golf at the University of Colorado — it might have been hard to see this coming, at least so soon.
On Tuesday, Miller capped off a fantastic fall of college golf by tying for third individually out of 69 competitors at the Hurricane Invitational in Coral Gables, Fla.
That means that in her last four college tournaments, Miller has posted three top-three finishes — with a second and two thirds.
Not half bad for a 19-year-old sophomore. Oh, and by the way, she posted the best stroke average in the fall portion of the schedule ever for a CU women’s player, with a 70.4 norm. That’s even better than transfer Sabrina Iqbal, who recently tied for eighth place in the second stage of LPGA Q-school, and whose fall average was 70.92.
Then there’s this: even though CU’s season is less than half over — the schedule resumes in the spring semester — Miller has set the program’s single-season record for rounds in the 60s, with seven.
In Florida, Miller posted scores of 68-69-71 for an 8-under-par total, which left her 11 strokes behind individual champion Sara Byrne of Miami, who won by nine. Over the three rounds, Miller made 10 birdies and two bogeys.
Miller has come on strong this season after a freshman year in which she notched one top-10 showing — a ninth place.
Outside of college in 2023, Miller has won the Ione D Jones / Doherty Women’s Amateur Championship in January, qualified for match play at the U.S. Women’s Amateur and finished third in the CGA Women’s Stroke Play.
Also placing in the top 10 on Tuesday in the Hurricane Invitational was Andrea Bergsdottir of Colorado State, who tied for eighth place at 4 under par overall (76-69-67). It was Bergsdottir’s second top-10 of the season.
In the team standings, CSU placed sixth out of 12 schools, while CU was ninth.
