Runner-up showing out of 30 teams at Stanford leaves CU men’s golf squad with 6 top-2 team finishes this season

With 30 teams in the field, The Goodwin college golf tournament at Stanford (Calif.) Golf Course proved another good test of the University of Colorado men’s squad’s remarkable consistency being in contention for team titles this season.
And the Buffs passed the exam — again.
Now ranked No. 32 among the nation’s Division I schools, CU placed second in the team standings on Saturday. And that was no small feat, considering 13 participating schools were ranked in the top 50 in the nation.
The Buffs, who posted a three-round team total of 2 under par, finished behind only champion UCLA (11 under).
With that, CU recorded its sixth top-2 finish of the season out of nine team events, one of which was a match-play affair and the others being third- and fifth-place showings for the Buffs. Specifically, CU owns one team victory and five second places.
Individually, while the Buffs didn’t have anyone in the top 10, they put two players in the top 20 out of the 164-man field. Sophomore Ty Holbrook placed 12th (68-74-67) and senior Justin Biwer 16th (69-73-68). Biwer, who started the day with an eagle, was 5 under par through 11 holes, but carded back-to-back double bogeys on 12 and 13 before closing with a birdie on Saturday.
Colorado State, ranked 43rd in the nation, finished 15th as a team, at 17 over par. Jake Rodgers was CSU’s top individual, tying for 26th place (73-66-73).
