Coloradans Hunter Swanson and Tyler Long among leaders in their age divisions at IMG Junior World Championships

A couple of Coloradans are in the top six in their age divisions after Tuesday’s opening round of the prestigious IMG Academy Junior World Championships in the San Diego area.
Hunter Swanson of Denver sits in fourthplace out of 207 players in the boys 15-18 competition. And Tyler Long of Evergreen shares sixth place out of 170 golfers among boys 13-14.
Swanson, the 2020 Junior Golf Alliance of Colorado Boys Player of the Year, fired a 1-under-par 70 at Torrey Pines South, which last month hosted the U.S. Open. After a day which included five birdies, two bogeys and a double bogey, the future University of Colorado golfer sits three strokes out of the lead.
Meanwhile, Long shot a 1-under 71 at the La Costa Resort Legends Course. He made five birdies and four bogeys and sits four behind leader Supapon Amornchaichan of Thailand.
Most of the tournaments — aside from the boys and girls 15-18 — will conclude on Thursday. The oldest age division wraps up on Friday.

— At the U.S. Girls’ Junior in Chevy Chase, Md., Katelyn Lehigh of Loveland failed to advance to the 64-player match-play portion of the event.
Lehigh, the 5A girls state high school individual champion who made it into the Girls’ Junior field after originally being the first alternate, shot a 20-over-par 90 on Tuesday. That left her at 28 over par overall for the two days of stroke play.
Rose Zhang earned medalist honors at 9-under-par 131 (69-62).

— At the Boys Junior PGA Championship in Lexington, Ky., Luke Cushman of Castle Rock missed the 36-hole cut to the low 70 players and ties. Cushman went 77-78 for a 13-over-par 155 total.
