Polk dominant in advancing to semifinals at CGA Super-Senior Match Play

Robert Polk has won just about every age-appropriate CGA championship since moving to Colorado … with one notable exception, that is.
He’s prevailed in the Senior Amateur four times, the Senior Match Play once, the Mid-Amateur once, the Senior Four-Ball five times and the Super-Senior Amateur twice. But the CGA Super-Senior Match Play has thus far eluded his grasp.
But the player from Colorado Golf Club is giving himself a chance to fill that void this week at Legacy Ridge Golf Course in Westminster. All three of his victories have come by lopsided margins: 6 and 5, 5 and 4, and 6 and 5. The last two of those came on Wednesday — 5 and 4 over Jim Reynolds of Bear Creek Golf Club in the round of 16 and 6 and 5 over Kary Kaltenbacher of Glenmoor Country Club in the quarterfinals.
Joining the three-time CGA Senior Player of the Year in Thursday’s semifinals will be 2017 champion Kent Moore of Cherry Hills Country Club, a Colorado Golf Hall of Famer; Dave Brown of the University of Denver Golf Club at Highlands Ranch; and Mark Udall of Coal Creek Golf Course.
Moore edged 2019 U.S. Senior Open qualifier Robin Bradbury of Omni Interlocken Resort, 1 up, to advance to the semis, while Udall beat 2020 CGA Super-Senior Amateur champion David Nelson of Columbine Country Club by the same score. Brown, the 2018 runner-up in this event, beat Rick George of Castle Pines Golf Club 3 and 2.
In the semis, Moore will face Brown, and Polk will meet Udall, who has gone to the 18th hole in all three of his matches. The winners will square off in Thursday afternoon’s title match.
Defending champion Sean Forey of The Club at Rolling Hills fell in Wednesday’s round of 16 to George, 3 and 2.
The Super-Senior Match Play is limited to players 64 and older.
