Windsor’s Devine grabs lead in Colorado National Women’s Amateur; fellow Coloradan Webster, DU’s Heck among those one behind

Leigha Devine of Windsor, who finished third in the CGA Women’s Stroke Play in June, shot the only sub-par score of the day and grabbed a one-shot lead after Saturday’s opening round of the Colorado National Women’s Amateur, a tournament which has drawn many college players.
Devine, a 2019 Fossil Ridge High School graduate who is playing her college golf at Rutgers, fired a 1-under-par 71 at Colorado National Golf Club in Erie.
She made four birdies — including three in a row — and three bogeys and will take a one-stroke lead into Sunday’s final round.
Kelsey Webster of Boulder, a University of Colorado golfer, shares second place at 72 with University of Denver golfer Anni Heck and Sadie Engelmann, an 18-year-old from Austin, Texas who is a freshman on the Stanford women’s golf team.
Webster posted one birdie and one bogey on Saturday, while Heck recorded a 3-under 33 on the back nine, making four birdies in the process. Englemann carded a triple-bogey 8 on the second hole and two bogeys overall, but also made five birdies.
Other Coloradans within three strokes of the lead are 2020 CGA Women’s Stroke Play champ Aubri Braecklein of Northglenn (73); three-time CGA Women’s Player of the Year Mary Weinstein of Highlands Ranch and DU (74), 2020 CGA Women’s Mid-Amateur Stroke Play winner Erin Houtsma of Denver (74); Hailey Schalk, a CU golfer and three-time state high school champ playing at her home course (74); former 5A state high school winner Emma Bryant of Aurora (74); and Jenna Chun of Brighton (74).
