A year after a Coloradan — Jennifer Kupcho of Westmister — won the inaugural Augusta National Women’s Amateur, the nationally-televised event again will feature some local flavor.
Anna Zanusso of Italy, a freshman on the University of Denver women’s golf team, received and accepted an invitation by phone to the 2020 tournament on Thursday, head coach Lindsay Kuhle confirmed. The 54-hole event is scheduled for April 1, 2 and 4 in Augusta, Ga., the week before the Masters.
Zanusso sits at No. 75 in the women’s World Amateur Golf Rankings. She’s No. 119 among women’s college players, according to Golfweek, and No. 132 according to Golfstat.
The 19-year-old freshman won the 96-player Golfweek Conference Challenge in September at Red Sky Golf Club in Wolcott, and she leads the team with a 72.07 scoring average.
In 2018, Zanusso won the Annika Invitational Europe and the under-18 title at the Internazionali d’Italia Femminili.
After rounds 1 and 2 of the ANWA are played April 1 and 2 at Champions Retreat Golf Club— then a practice round at Augusta National Golf Club on April 3 — the event will conclude on April 4 at Augusta National. Thirty players will make the 36-hole cut.
