High-Powered Final

2-time U.S. Senior Women’s Amateur finalist Sue Wooster will face Kim Eaton for title in CGA Women’s Senior Match Play

By Gary Baines – 7/21/2021

Sue Wooster of Metro Denver eClub, an Australian who was runner-up in both the 2018 and ’19 U.S. Senior Women’s Amateurs, earned a spot in the finals of the CGA Women’s Senior Match Play on Wednesday by defeating Marilyn Hardy of Dos Rios Golf Club, 2 up at Collindale Golf Course in Fort Collins.

In Thursday morning’s title match, Wooster will face Colorado Golf Hall of Famer Kim Eaton, who on Tuesday secured a berth in the finals. Eaton, a four-time quarterfinalist in the U.S. Senior Women’s Amateur, is seeking her fifth CGA Women’s Senior Match Play title and her 26th CGA/CWGA championship overall, which would be a record career total. Eaton and fellow Hall of Famer Carol Flenniken are currently tied with 25 championships each.

Against Hardy, the 2020 CGA Women’s Senior Stroke Play champion and veteran of more than 40 USGA championships, Wooster trailed after only one hole as she was 1 down after three. But Wooster was just 1 up through 17. On the 18th, she made par and Hardy a double bogey to make it a 2-up victory. Wooster ended up even-par for the day.

Wooster has won her three matches this week, 5 and 4, 7 and 6, and 2 up.

The CGA Women’s Net Match Play is being held concurrently with the Senior Match Play. All the pod winners likewise will tee it up on Thursday to determine the first flight and second flight champions. In the first flight, it will be Margaret Stanley-Gonzales of Antler Creek Golf Course vs. Mackenzie Fontana of Cherokee Ridge Golf Course. In the second flight, Paige Rodriguez of Coal Creek Golf Course will take on Miok Billinger of Collindale.
