Coloradan Zahkai Brown claims title in Laramie Open on Independence Day

On the eve of attempting to Monday qualify for the upcoming TPC Colorado Championship at Heron Lakes, Zahkai Brown of Golden scored a July 4 victory in the Laramie (Wyo.) Open, earning $15,000 in the process.
The 2013 CoBank Colorado Open champion posted rounds of 64-65-66 for an 18-under-par 195 total and a one-stroke victory.
Brown, a former Colorado State University golfer who was the CGA Player of the Year in 2011, carded 24 birdies, two bogeys and two double bogeys over 54 holes at Jacoby Park Golf Club.
Brown fended off Edward Olson of Aptos, Calif., who closed with a 61 to end up in second place, one behind. They were the only two competitors to finished with totals under 200.

On Monday, Brown is scheduled to tee it up at Highland Meadows Golf Course in Windsor, seeking one of four spots available there for the TPC Colorado Championship, which begins Thursday at TPC Colorado in Berthoud. Another four TPC Colorado Championship competitors will come from Monday qualifying at Colorado National Golf Club in Erie.
