A 3-time Cactus Tour champ in 2019, former CU golfer Fan opens 2020 season with top-3 finish

By Gary Baines – 3/13/2020

While most of the world’s major professional golf tours have closed up shop — at least tournament-wise — for the time being due to concern over the spread of the coronavirus, plenty of mini-tour action continued this week.

And several players with significant Colorado ties scored top-10 finishes:

— Former University of Colorado golfer Brittany Fan began her 2020 season by tying for third on Friday in a 19-player Cactus Tour event in Sun City, Ariz. Fan, winner of three Cactus Tour tournaments in 2019, posted rounds of 71-73-71 for a 1-under-par 215 total which left her three strokes behind winner Lisa Pettersson of Sweden.

Fan was the 2013 CoBank Colorado Women’s Open low amateur and the 2015 CWGA Match Play runner-up.

Also notching a top-10 finish in Sun City was former Colorado State University golfer Katrina Prendergast, who placed ninth (78-70-73—221).

— Twin brothers Jeremy and Yannik Paul, former CU golfers, tied for eighth place on Wednesday at the Outlaw Tour’s Moon Valley Classic in Phoenix.

Jeremy Paul (71-67-67) and Yannik (69-68-68) finished at 11-under-par 205 and earned $1,610. Riley Sheeldon of Scottsdale won the event with a 195 total.
