By Gary Baines – 12/2/2021

Becca Huffer of Monument, who earned her LPGA Tour card three years ago through the eight-round Q-Series, is off to a strong start in her quest to return to the top women’s golf circuit in the world.

The two-time CoBank Colorado Women’s Open champion made seven birdies, two bogeys and a double bogey on Thursday in Mobile, Ala., where the first four rounds of the eight-round event will take place.

Huffer trails leaders Emily Kristine Pedersen, Peiyun Chien and Alejandra Llaneza by three strokes and is tied for 14th place out of 110 players going into day 2.

After the fourth round concludes on Sunday, a cut to the top 70 players and ties will be made and the final four rounds will take place Dec. 9-12 in Dothan, Ala. The top 45 finishers and ties after 144 holes will earn 2022 LPGA Tour cards.

Huffer finished 10th in the inaugural Q-Series in 2018.

Former University of Colorado golfers Robyn Choi and Esther Lee, both of whom likewise have had LPGA cards in the past, opened with 77s on separate courses on Thursday, with Choi being 5 over par and Lee 6 over.

Here are the scores for all the players with strong Colorado connections:

14. Becca Huffer of Monument 69 (-3)

105. Former CU golfer Robyn Choi 77(+5)

106. Former CU golfer Esther Lee 77 (+6)
