8 players in double digits under par at halfway point of Inspirato Colorado Open

Green Valley Ranch Golf Club is certainly no pushover by average course standards. It definitely has some relatively easy holes, but there are some very difficult ones as well.
But when the Inspirato Colorado Open comes around each year, the top players in the field seems to make it look simple.
That certainly has something to do with the $100,000 first prize and the $250,000 overall purse attracting a lot of really good players.
That’s a big reason why the 72-hole winning totals have been 23 under par or more five of the last seven years. And in 2020 Mark Anguiano toyed with finishing at 30 under but “settled” for 29.
And this year, the trend is continuing. After two rounds at GVR, eight players are already double digits under par.
Going into the weekend, Andre Metzger of Scottsdale, Ariz., is setting the pace, sitting at 14 under par after rounds of 65-63. That’s just one stroke off the 36-hole tournament record. Ryan Cole of Mount Airy, Md. (65-64) is one back and Scotland’s Paul O’Hara (64-66) is two off the pace.
First-round leader Wil Collins of Albuquerque, winner of the Colorado Open in 2005 and 2022, backed up his first-round 62 with a 69 and shares fourth place at 11 under par.
Also at that figure is longtime northern Colorado resident Parker Edens (65-66), who leads the low-amateur competition by four strokes.
Notable: Kevin Stadler of Denver, winner of the Colorado Open in 2002 and the PGA Tour’s Phoenix Open in 2014, has missed the cut in his last six PGA Tour starts, dating back to the beginning of March. But the Kent Denver graduate will be around for the weekend — with ease — at the Colorado Open. With scores of people 67-69, he shares 21st place at 6 under par. … Among those that missed the 36-hole cut were 13-time PGA Tour winner David Duval of Cherry Hills Village (73-70) and former champion Dru Love (75-69), who had his dad, World Golf Hall of Famer Davis Love, caddie for him. … Others who failed to advance to the weekend were two-time champion Derek Tolan (71-73) and 2013 winner Zahkai Brown (71-70), who tied for third last year.
