Coloradan Doug Rohrbaugh moves into top 25 at first stage PGA Tour Champions Q-school tourney

Doug Rohrbaugh of Carbondale, who had conditional status on PGA Tour Champions in 2015, shot an even-par 72 on Tuesday and moved up to 23rd place at the halfway point of the first stage of Champions Q-school in Winter Garden, Fla.

Rohrbaugh, three-time winner of the Colorado PGA Professional Championship, made three birdies and three bogeys on Tuesday and checked in at 4-over-par 148 overall, which leaves him eight strokes behind co-leaders Michael Watson and Ricardo Gonzalez. 

At least the top 18 finishers — out of a starting field of 74 — after four rounds will advance to the final stage of Q-school, set for Dec. 7-10 in Lutz, Fla. There, the top five performers will be exempt on the Champions circuit in 2022.

Meanwhile, fellow Colorado PGA member Micah Rudosky of Cortez sits in 30th place after posting his second straight round of 3-over-par 75, putting him at 150 overall. Rudosky, the reigning Colorado PGA Professional Champion, carded one birdie and four bogeys on Tuesday.

The tournament continues through Thursday.

This week marks the third and final first-stage Q-school qualifier for PGA Tour Champions. Earlier, former Durango resident Tom Kalinowski punched his ticket to the final stage by tying for second in a qualifier in Nipton, Calif.
