Coloradans Austin Barry, Nathan Kim and Brenna Higgins crack top 25 at Optimist International Junior Golf Championship

Three Coloradans — two boys and one girl — posted top-25 finishes in Phase 2 of the Optimist International Junior Golf Championship in Miami, which ended on Friday.
Austin Barry of Fort Collins and Nathan Kim of Castle Pines tied for 18th place in the 112-player boys 14-15 competition with 18-over-par 233 totals. Barry went 83-73-77, while Kim carded scores of 78-79-76. Both ended up 16 strokes behind winner Ryan Slonaker of Penn Laird, Va.
In the girls 13-14 competition, Brenna Higgins of Centennial placed 23rd of out 62 players. She went 80-79-87 for a 30-over-par 246 total, leaving her 28 strokes behind champion Alexis Faieta of Tujunga, Calif.
The Optimist tournaments for the oldest age group of boys and girls will conclude next week. The competitions for younger players wrapped up last week (READ MORE).
