By Gary Baines – 8/17/2021

Ben Lanting is making this a habit.

The assistant pro from Bear Creek Golf Club won the National Car Rental Colorado Assistant PGA Professional Championship on Tuesday, marking his third victory in the event in the last four years.

Lanting, winner in 2018 and ’19, trailed by four strokes entering the final round at Highland Meadows Golf Course in Windsor, but a 7-under-par 64 on Tuesday gave him a two-stroke victory and the $1,190 first prize.

Lanting bogeyed his first hole on Tuesday, then played his last 17 in 8 under par to post a 10-under 132 total.

First-round leader Andy Connell of The Ridge at Castle Pines North tied for second place at 134 with Mike Weingartner of Walnut Creek Golf Preserve. Weingartner closed with a 68 and Connell with a 70.

Ryan Wroblewski of Colorado Golf Club placed fourth at 136 after a second straight 68.

The top four finishers on Tuesday qualify for the National Car Rental Assistant PGA Professional Championship that will be held Nov. 11-14 in Port St. Lucie, Fla.
