Aspen’s Liselotte Neumann 2nd after 2 rounds of U.S. Senior Women’s Open; Sherry Andonian-Smith, Hollis Stacy also make cut

Three Colorado residents made the cut Friday in the U.S. Senior Women’s Open in Fairfield, Conn., with Aspen’s Liselotte Neumann holding second place, three shots behind fellow Swede Annika Sorenstam.
Neumann, winner of the 1988 U.S. Women’s Open, fired a 3-under-par 69 on Friday, leaving her at 5-under 139 overall. Neumann carded six birdies and three bogeys on day 2.
Meanwhile, Colorado PGA professional Sherry Andonian-Smith, who has qualified for all three U.S. Senior Women’s Opens held to date, made the cut for the first time. The instructor at Valley Country Club shot her second consecutive round of 2-over-par 74 and shared 20th place as of the end of play Friday. Through two rounds, she’s made one birdie and five bogeys.
And three-time U.S. Women’s Open champion — and part-time Coloradan — Hollis Stacy shares 30th place at 6-over 150 after going 75-75. Each day, Stacy carded a birdie and four bogeys.
The top 50 players and ties will advance to the final two rounds. Amateur and Colorado Golf Hall of Famer Janet Moore of Centennial fell short of the mark, going 80-79.
Sorenstam holds the top spot with an 8-under 136 total (67-69).
Play was suspended due to darkness on Friday evening at 8:12 (ET), with 15 players remaining on the course having yet to complete Round 2.
