CSU’s Andrea Bergsdottir backs up college win with runner-up finish; 2-time CGA Women’s Player of the Year Leigha Devine also continues hot start to spring season

Spring has really sprung — in a very positive way — for fifth-year Colorado State University golfer Andrea Bergsdottir.
And the same is true for Colorado resident — and Rutgers golfer — Leigha Devine.
On Monday at the Westbrook Invitational in Peoria, Ariz., both Bergsdottir and Devine posted top-6 finishes in a 77-player field, with Bergsdottir sharing second place and Devine sixth.
Both golfers have been on a strong run to start the spring college schedule.
Earlier this month, the Swede Bergsdottir started CSU’s spring season with an individual victory — her first as a Ram — in the Collegiate Invitational in Guadalajara, Mexico.
And Devine, a two-time CGA Women’s Player of the Year, began the spring with a 12th-place showing in the Paradise Invitational in Boca Raton, Fla.
Two-time CGA Women’s Player of the Year Leigha Devine has recorded three straight top-12 finishes in college tournaments.
On Monday, both Bergsdottir and Devine were in the hunt for the individual title, but Chloe Chan of Wisconsin prevailed for the victory — by one over Bergsdottir and three over Devine.
Bergsdottir went 69-68-66 for a 13-under-par 203 total. In her first two spring tournaments, she’s 17 under par for six rounds.
Meanwhile, Devine checked in at 11 under par (72-65-68) in Arizona. Four of her six spring rounds so far have produced scores between 65 and 70. Dating back to the fall, she’s recorded three straight top-12 showings.
In the team standings in Peoria, Colorado State finished seventh out of 14 schools, while Rutgers was 12th. Kansas, coached by longtime Coloradan Lindsay Kuhle, claimed its first team title in six years.
