8 Colorado courses among Golfweek’s best 200 in modern and classic categories

In recent weeks, Golfweek published its three foundational course-ratings lists, and eight Colorado courses were among those included on the digital magazine’s best modern or best classic top 200.
Golfweek classifies modern courses as those built since 1960, and classic layouts as those built prior to the start of the ’60s.
Three Colorado courses are in the top 60 on the modern list: Ballyneal in Holyoke (No. 4); Colorado Golf Club in Parker, which will host the U.S. Mid-Amateur in September (pictured, No. 35); and Castle Pines Golf Club, the home to the PGA Tour’s International from 1986 through 2006 (No. 55).
Cherry Hills Country Club — home to three U.S. Opens, two PGA Championships and a U.S. Women’s Open — is the only Colorado facility in the classic top 100, checking it at No. 89.
