Former Coloradan Esteban Toledo still in running for 2022 PGA Tour Champions card, but needs strong final round at Q-school finals

By Gary Baines – 12/9/2021

Former Castle Pines resident Esteban Toledo remained in the top 10, but has some ground to make up if he’s to earn fully-exempt status on PGA Tour Champions for 2022 through the final stage of Q-school.

Toledo carded a 1-over-par 72 on Thursday in Lutz, Fla., leaving him in a tie for 10th place in the 79-man field going into Friday’s final round. The top five finishers on Friday will land Champions cards for next year, and the player currently in fifth place, Alan Morin, stands at 8-under 205.

Toledo, who won four times on the Champions circuit between 2013 and ’16, sits at 4-under 209. The 59-year-old made three birdies and four bogeys in round 3.

David Branshaw leads the competition at 202, followed by Thongchai Jade (203), Rob Labritz (203), Tom Gillis (204) and Morin (205).

The other two players with strong Colorado connections competing this week are out of the running to earn one of the five Champions Tour cards as part-time Boulder resident Jonathan Kaye and former Durango resident Tom Kalinowski are tied in 65th place at 224, Kaye after a 75 on Thursday and Kalinowski following a 78.

The scores of the competitors with major Colorado ties:

10. Former Castle Pines resident Esteban Toledo 66-71-72–209

65. Part-time Boulder resident Jonathan Kaye 74-75-75–224
