Wyndham Clark, the first Colorado high school grad to make the cut at Masters since 2014, sees rally derailed by 3-putts, some bad luck

By Gary Baines – 4/12/2025

Hard as it might be to believe, Wyndham Clark on Saturday became the first graduate of a Colorado high school to play a weekend round at the Masters in 11 years.

Before the Valor Christian alum made the cut this year, the last product of a high school in the Centennial State to have done so was Kent Denver grad Kevin Stadler, who finished eighth in 2014 at Augusta National.

Clark will need a spectacular final round on Sunday to match Stadler’s top-10 finish from 11 years ago, but regardless of how things shake out, the fact that a player who grew up in Colorado made the cut at the Masters is a rarity unto itself — at least in the last couple of decades.

Clark, a Denver native who was inducted into the Colorado Golf Hall of Fame late last year, started out well enough on Saturday after making the cut at the Masters for the first time the previous day. He sank a 22-foot birdie putt on No. 3 to get into red figures overall, at 1 under par.

But three straight bogeys — on holes 5-7 — derailed the rally that started in the middle of round 2. Two of the bogeys were particularly painful. He three-putted from 10 feet on No. 6. And on the next hole, Clark’s greenside sand shot hit the pin on the fly and deflected back into another bunker.

After that, he made two birdies and three bogeys, with three putts on Nos. 16 and 18 being his second and third of the round. On the other end of the spectrum, Clark two-putted from 105 feet on No. 8 for birdie.

Add it up and Clark posted a 3-over-par 75 on Saturday, which leaves him at 3 over for the tournament and tied for 42nd place going into Sunday’s final round.

Clark will be paired with Patrick Cantlay for round 4 as they’ll tee off at 8:20 am (MT).
