Hardy, Moore hope to keep U.S. Senior Women’s Amateur qualifying streaks intact

The field for the 2019 U.S. Senior Women’s Amateur Qualifying tournament in Colorado will look a lot like the 2018 version.
In fact, all seven players who qualified in Colorado Springs last year for the Senior Women’s Am are scheduled to compete in the 2019 qualifier, which is set for Wednesday at Meadow Hills Golf Course in Aurora.
The top eight finishers there — out of a field of 33 — will advance to the national championship, set for Aug. 24-29 at Cedar Rapids Country Club in Iowa.
The field this year includes two players who won at least one match at last year’s U.S. Senior Women’s Am — part-time Gunnison resident Marilyn Hardy, who went to the round of 16 in 2018, and Colorado Golf Hall of Famer Janet Moore of Centennial, who advanced to the round of 32 a year ago. Hardy has earned spots in all seven U.S. Senior Women’s Ams for which she’s been eligible, while Moore has gone 5-for-5.
Other 2018 national qualifiers from the Colorado site who will return are CGA Women’s Senior Player of the Year Kristine Franklin of Broomfield, Tiffany Maurycy of Denver, and Colorado Springs residents Jennifer Hocking, Deb Pearson and Helene Afeman.
Another 2018 U.S. Senior Women’s Am competitor, Kathy West of Castle Pines, also is attempting to qualify again.
Others in Wednesday’s field include Colorado Golf Hall of Famer Christie Austin of Denver, Kathy Malpass of Evergreen, Deb Hughes of Denver and Laurie Steenrod of Aurora.
