Putter on Fire

The CGA Super-Senior Match Play Championship concluded Thursday at Willis Case Golf Course. Former CGA President, Tom Lawrence came out victorious over past Senior Stroke Play Champion Roger Prenzlow.

Lawrence stated that his putting was on fire this week which was apparent when he sunk his 25-foot for birdie on the 17th hole to end the match 2 and 1.

“I felt very comfortable playing this course this week since it was the course that I played all the time in my 20s with my uncle and friends,” said Lawrence.

During the quarterfinals on Wednesday, Lawrence faced off against four-time Senior Player of the Year, Robert Polk.  After defeating Polk 3 and 1, Lawrence encountered Mark Donahue in the semifinals. The semifinals were a bit more back and forth but ended with Lawrence winning 1 up.

During the final match, Lawrence was 3 up after four holes and stayed 3 up through 10. Prenzlow then started making a comeback on holes 11 and 12. On hole 14, Lawrence went 2 up but Prenzlow won hole 16. Then on hole 17, Lawrence ended the match with a birdie.
