Bishop/Burke team opens with stellar 60 to grab lead in CGA Four-Ball

Last year, when Nick Nosewicz and Andrew Maier set the 54-hole scoring record — by three strokes — in the CGA Four-Ball Championship, their best individual-day score of the weekend was a 61 at Legacy Ridge Golf Course in Westminster.
In fact, that was the best score posted by any team during the 2019 tournament.
But on Friday, in the first round of the 2020 Four-Ball at Legacy Ridge, Tyler Bishop of Ptarmigan Country Club and Ryan Burke of Twin Peaks Golf Course did the 2019 champions one better.
Burke and Bishop teamed up for a scratch better-ball score of 12-under-par 60 that gave them a two-stroke lead after round 1 of the three-day event.
Burke and Bishop made 12 birdies in their bogey-free round. In fact, Bishop, a former pro, shot a 9-under 63 on his own ball, not making any bogeys, while Burke posted a 68.
Sitting in second place at 62 were four-time CGA Mid-Amateur of the Year Chris Thayer and Bryan Rusin of Green Valley Ranch Golf Club, who carded 10 birdies on Friday. Thayer recorded a 67 on his own ball.
Six teams opened with a 64 and share third place, including Nosewicz and Maier, the defending champions, and three-time Mid-Am winner Steve Irwin of Lakewood Country Club and fellow former University of Colorado golfer Matt Zions.
The tournament, which features 52 teams, will continue through Sunday.
