Rocky Mountain Golf Course Superintendent’s Association members, supported by Colorado Golf Coalition lobbyist, Jennifer Cassell (not pictured) testified before the Senate Agriculture and Natural Resources Committee into the wee hours at the State Capitol on March 3rd. The issue? A proposed bill (SB 22-131) that would have fundamentally changed how pesticide application and use is governed in the state of Colorado. The bill was defeated by a vote of 6 to 1.
As environmental stewards, these professional agronomists were able to share the onsite oversight and best management practices used to maintain Colorado’s 236 golf courses. These courses provide 33,061 acres of greenspace that preserve wildlife habitat, carbon offsets, and recreational opportunities to add to the quality of life in Colorado—all while using less than 1% of the state’s water consumption.
