Coloradan Scott Petersen Monday qualifies for the second PGA Tour Champions start of his career

This weekend’s Hoag Classic on PGA Tour Champions already had a 52-year-old from Parker who has won the Colorado Open in its field.
And now it has another.
Joining Shane Bertsch, the winner of the 1998 Colorado Open, among the contestants for the Hoag Classic in Newport Beach, Calif., will be 2000 Colorado Open champion Scott Petersen.
Bertsch, a past winner on the Champions circuit (along with three Korn Ferry Tour victories), was exempt into the field. But Petersen had to land a spot via Monday qualifying in Mira Loma, Calif.
The former University of Colorado golfer did so by shooting a 4-under-par 67 and finishing second out of a Monday qualifier that originally featured 48 players. Joining Petersen in Monday qualifying for the event were medalist Dicky Pride of Orlando (66) and two-time Inspirato Colorado Senior Open champion Harry Rudolph III of La Jolla, Calif. (68).
The 54-hole Hoag Classic will run Friday through Sunday. Joining Petersen and Rudolph in the field, from a Colorado perspective, will be Centennial State residents David Duval and Chris DiMarco, along with former Aspen resident Justin Leonard.
It will be just the second PGA Tour Champions start for Petersen, who finished 72nd at the 2022 Shaw Charity Classic after likewise Monday qualifying. Petersen, a two-time CGA Amateur champion in the early 1990s, won on the Korn Ferry Tour in 2000.
Petersen made the grade on Monday with a four-birdie, no-bogey round. Rudolph carded five birdies and two bogeys before prevailing in a playoff with Dean Wilson, who won the 2006 International at Castle Pines Golf Club.
