Several captains at CGA Women’s Club Team Championship are no strangers to statewide success

Some of the big guns of Colorado women’s golf will be leading teams from their home courses on Monday when Lake Valley Golf Club in Niwot hosts the 17th CGA Women’s Club Team Championship.

Twenty-six courses will be represented in the competition, which brings with it some bragging rights in the state.

Among the team captains scheduled to compete in the event who have won CGA/CWGA individual championship titles are Kristine Franklin (The Ranch Country Club), Laurie Steenrod (Saddle Rock Golf Course) and Mary Doyen (Foothills Golf Course).

In addition, recent USGA championship qualifiers in the field at Lake Valley include Susan Hartwell (West Woods Golf Club).

All told, six clubs that have won the Women’s Club Team title in the past are sending four-person teams to Monday’s championship. That includes defending championship Eisenhower Golf Club. And two golfers from last year’s winning team are back representing Eisenhower: Betty Bullington and Kandi Fitzgerald.

The tournament features an ABCD stroke-play format in which the scores of four players of significantly varying abilities are added up for a gross aggregate team total,
