Teaming Up

Mertzes back to defend title at CGA Parent-Child at River Valley Ranch

By Gary Baines – 05/31/2019

Champions from the last two years will be back seeking a second title this weekend in the CGA Parent-Child Championship at River Valley Ranch in Carbondale.

Guy Mertz of Twin Peaks Golf Course and Nicklaus Mertz of The Fox Hill Club will defend their title after posting a four-stroke victory last year at Keystone Ranch.

And 2017 winners Lenny and Nick Nosewicz of Meadow Hills Golf Course will also tee it up, along with 49 other teams.

The 36-hole event will feature a Modified Chapman format on Saturday, with both players from a team teeing off and playing their second shots with their partner’s ball, then selecting one ball to play alternately into the hole. On Sunday, it will be Foursome Stroke Play, with players alternating shots from the tee until the ball is holed.

Both gross and net competitions will be held.

Also in the field are four-time champions Gary and Alex Kephart, 2014 winners Chris and Steve Dillon, and former University of Denver golfer Charlie Soule and dad David.
