U.S. Am – Junior Experience

Cherry Hills, USGA to host on-site attraction to entertain, engage and educate youth with live golf-centric activities during 123rd U.S. Amateur

Denver, CO – When Denver’s Cherry Hills Country Club hosts its third United States Amateur Championship August 14-20, a specially curated Junior Experience will be one of the key week-long attractions for on-site spectators.

The Junior Experience will be the place for attendees and youth to learn about golf and the opportunities and doors it can open for young people. Kids will have a hands-on chance to chip, putt and swing in a golf simulator. There will also be activities in STEM and art that tie in with golf. Alongside the activities, kids will also be exposed to the opportunities afforded them through golf by learning about the scholarship opportunities through the Palmer Foundation and Evans Scholarship programs.

In addition, youth from area programs like First Tee Colorado chapters, Colorado Uplift, Solich Caddie & Leadership Academy and others will receive tickets to attend the Junior Experience and the U.S. Amateur. The Junior Experience is open to all youth, ages 17 and under, who are registered to attend the tournament.

Follow this link to the FREE U.S. Amateur registration for kids ages 17 and under.  The first 1,000 kids registered will receive a FREE U.S. Amateur hat from Cherry Hills!

Adult tickets can be pre-purchased for $25 by clicking HERE.

The Junior Experience at the U.S. Amateur at Cherry Hills will be an engaging and educational pavilion where volunteers will host interactive GolfTEC-inspired full-swing instruction, a long putt challenge, chipping instruction, and golf-related STEM and Art activities. The kids attending will experience a first-class infrastructure with instruction and tips from First Tee coaches and PGA Pros. The golf-related STEM and Art activities will be interactive and educational to help introduce the game of golf to kids across Colorado. To further support the USGA’s goal of making golf more inclusive, several representatives from community supporters – First Tee Colorado chapters, Palmer Scholars, Evans Scholars, and Colorado Golf Association – will be on-site to share information about their youth programming, jobs in golf, and scholarship opportunities.

“Cherry Hills and the USGA have a long tradition of supporting youth through its caddie program and support of the Evans Scholarship and Palmer Scholarship programs,” said Jim Hillary, Championship Chair for the United States Amateur. “The Junior Experience is designed to provide fun activities and a roadmap for kids wanting to get involved in golf through play, employment and internship opportunities and scholarships. Like Arnold Palmer, who said the 1954 U.S. Amateur was a turning point in his golfing career, we hope the 2023 U.S. Amateur provides ‘Turning Points’ to the competitors and the kids who come out to experience the top amateur event in the world and learn how to access all that the game has to offer.”

Cherry Hills, which is celebrating its 100th anniversary as a club this summer, previously hosted the USGA’s oldest national championship in 1990 and 2012. Just as important as hosting national golf championships on a regular basis, Cherry Hills holds an equal dedication and passion to giving back to the game and creating turning-point opportunities for youth in the local community and impacting the lives of young people across the Centennial State.
